Configuring timezone and NTP on CentOS

2 Jun

So I noticed that somewhere my time and timezone went misconfigured. Here’s how to fix it from a CentOS commandline.

First the timezone:

cp /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Amsterdam /etc/localtime

Next setup (and install if necessary) NTP:

yum install ntp

chkconfig ntpd on

ntpdate pool.ntp.org

/etc/init.d/ntpd start

That’s it!
